What is the Purpose of a Resume?

What is an Accomplishment Statement?

"There are three parts to it [an accomplishment statement]. The first part is that you begin your statement with an active verb. So things like collaborative, designed, implemented are good active verbs as opposed to, for example, helped or assisted would not be active verbs. The middle part of the formula or the filling, if you like, in the sandwich,then goes on to describe who were you working with? Was there a customer or an audience you were working to deliver to? Was there a platform or a methodology that you were applying? And then the last piece of the statement, which is the piece that really, really makes a difference and changes it from simply listing your job duty into an accomplishment statement is what was the result or the outcome."

Disclosing Identities on Job Applications

"Really focus on what are the job requirements that you're trying to apply for. What are the skill sets that your potential supervisor is looking for. And really lean and focus your application and your resume on that. So if, for example, you want to apply for a summer job at a bank and you want to get into the financial industry after your degree, then if you are the treasurer for the National Society of Black Engineers, you should lean into it, right? Highlight all the different skill sets you developed."
