27 Talk to a company you do not know
Sometimes, talking to strangers can be a good thing. Talking to someone you don’t know at a company will help you find similar companies you may want to work for and build your network within the industry.
- Register for the Extern Job Shadowing Program or Explore It Job Shadowing Program (for select second-year Arts & Science students) to get access to listings of companies and employers who will allow students to come for a half-day to five-day job shadowing experience.
- For a different experience, keep an eye out for In the Field programs, which offer opportunities to go with a group of students to an organization and meet a variety of professionals in different occupations working within one environment.
- When you get to the workplace, seek the opinions of those on the inside on how they are trying to reinvent their industry.
- Interview people from your LinkedIn, the U of T Hub on Ten Thousand Coffees, the Mentorship Database or backpack to Briefcase.
