05 Find a friend in the same situation

During your job search you will meet an innumerable number of people – a few of them will be in exactly the same situation as you. Whether you are just beginning to think about career possibilities with your degree or are looking for a job after graduation, find someone who is making a similar transition and going through the same process as you.

Schedule a coffee or meet-up with this person every two weeks until you both have met your goals. During your meetings, do the following four things:

  1. Share any advice you have gotten.
  2. Review the people you have met and the events of the last two weeks.
  3. Compare notes on what mentor meetings or informational interviews have yielded.
  4. Hold each other accountable to your goals.
